Jumpstart your Business

Our MD, Natasha Ellard-Shoefield, was delighted to be asked by Creative England to run a Business Development webinar for Creative England as part of their Jumpstart your Business series.

Jumpstart your Business

It was fascinating to spend some time in the company of creatives both in the process of setting up their own businesses, and in early stages of business. The session was focused on a number of key areas:

  • Business growth and success
  • Developing a strategic roadmap/plan
  • Generating leads to win new customers
  • How to retain the existing customers

There were some great questions from the audience and some themes that emerged from the discussion were:

  • The reality of being a business owner vs doing what you love every day
  • The need to create a strong proposition (and stay true to it)
  • Getting your head around the new business process and not being afraid to ‘sell’
  • And of course, our personal favourite, the importance of roadmapping!

All in all, it was a fantastic session that we really enjoyed being part of. We wish all the participants the very best luck for the future and look forward to seeing those businesses emerge on the scene!

Planning to win more new business soon?

Those agencies that get it right know that new business campaigns should not be short term, but need to be part of a planned, overarching strategy that is employed and measured consistently. They also know that the new business team shouldn’t be sat within a silo, it must be fully integrated in the business of an agency to achieve its goals. It is not necessarily complacency that agencies can suffer from when seeking new business, but not refining the approach.

Here at The Hand, we’ve written before about the culture within the agency environment and the need to embrace the sales process. But we haven’t yet shared the essential tools for getting it right once the culture is addressed.

Who are your ideal clients?

If you haven’t had to go out and seek new clients for your creative agency before, it can be hard to know where to start. Even for the most experienced agencies out there, you don’t always have the time to step back and question whether what you’re doing on the new business front is effective.
